Who We Are
Autism assessments at Child Psychiatry Consultancy are conducted by a multidisciplinary team. This means your child benefits from the expertise of several specialists working together — not a single clinician working alone. The team is led by Dr Athina Zakynthinaki and includes a Speech and Language Therapist and an Occupational Therapist.
Our Team
Dr Athina Zakynthinaki, MD, MRCPsych
Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist
Dr Athina Zakynthinaki is a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with nineteen years of clinical experience across NHS CAMHS services, holding full specialist registration with the General Medical Council. She holds an NHS consultant post at Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust's Neurodevelopmental Service and is a Section 12 Approved Doctor and Approved Clinician. Her practice is rooted in neurodevelopmental psychiatry, with a particular focus on the nuanced differential diagnosis of ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and co-occurring neurodevelopmental and psychiatric conditions — an area in which she is widely recognised for the depth and thoroughness of her clinical formulations and her commitment to diagnostic accuracy in complex and atypical presentations. She brings an exceptional volume of direct diagnostic experience, having conducted thousands of autism and ADHD assessments throughout her career, a depth of practice that gives her clinical judgement a precision and confidence that is immediately apparent to the families she works with. She has a sustained commitment to training and educating fellow clinicians in neurodevelopmental differential diagnosis, and holds a specialist interest in the female profile of neurodiversity, with a particular awareness of how presentations in girls and young women are frequently missed or diagnosed late. Her clinical toolkit spans ADI-R, ADOS-2, QbTest, Systemic Family Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and EMDR, and she approaches every assessment with the conviction that diagnostic clarity, delivered with warmth and rigour, is the foundation upon which meaningful support for a child and their family is built.
At Child Psychiatry Consultancy, Dr Zakynthinaki brings the full depth of her NHS expertise into a setting where families are met with the time, attention, and clinical precision that every child deserves — guided by the unwavering conviction that diagnostic excellence and genuine human care are not competing priorities, but inseparable ones.
Occupational TherapistVimbai Mukori
Vimbai Mukori is an autism diagnostician, occupational therapist, speaker and trainer, with over a decade of experience across health, education, and social care in the UK.
Holding a BSc (Hons) from Coventry University and a master's-level counselling skills module from London South Bank University, she brings clinical rigour which is guided by evidence-based practice. Her background includes working at well known London hospitals including Barts Health NHS Trust and Guys and St Thomas Trust. Having lived across Africa, North America, and England — and drawing on her own lived experience with ADHD— Vimbai brings a genuinely cross-cultural understanding of diversity, identity, and belonging.
At Child Psychiatry Consultancy, our adherence to the guidelines established by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) ensures that all assessments are conducted in accordance with the highest practices and standards. These guidelines serve as a framework for our evaluations, allowing us to provide reliable and effective services to our clients.
Consultant Psychiatrists possess specialized training, equipping them to practice independently without requiring oversight from more senior medical professionals. Their qualifications are formally recognized on the specialist register maintained by the General Medical Council (GMC), providing a means for verification of their expertise and competence. Any such doctor can be looked up on that register via https://www.gmc-uk.org/registration-and-licensing/the-medical-register.
Our approach
How we work
We believe the best outcomes come from combining clinical expertise with genuine compassion. Here is what you can expect from us:
Your child, at the centre
Every assessment is built around your child as an individual — their strengths, their challenges, and their unique way of experiencing the world. We never apply a one-size-fits-all approach.
Evidence-based practice
We use only validated, gold-standard diagnostic tools and follow current NICE guidelines. You can be confident that every assessment is rigorous, thorough, and clinically sound.
Clear and honest communication
We explain everything in plain language — before, during, and after the assessment. Reports are detailed, readable, and designed to be genuinely useful to you, your child's school, and any other professionals involved in their care.
Accessible by design
All consultations are delivered via secure video call. No travel, no waiting rooms — just expert support from wherever you are in the UK.
